Idle Sleep Hybrid and Latex Hybrid Mattress Review

The Idle Hybrid Mattress Mattress and the Idle Latex Hybrid Mattress both combine foam layers with a coil support system to provide a comfortable yet supportive sleeping experience. As such, we will present them together in this review.

Construction and Materials

Idle Hybrid Mattress

Each side of the Idle Hybrid Mattress has a ThermoCool cover infused with Tencel lyocell fibers that provide adequate heat dissipation for temperature regulation.

The comfort layers consist of aerated and quilted polyfoams combined with a transitional denser polyfoam. This combination provides a perfect balance of body cushioning and evenly distributed support.

The support core, consisting of 6-inch pocketed coils, reinforces both sides of the mattress by providing a sturdy structure. It also allows adequate air circulation for heat dissipation.

Idle Latex Hybrid Mattress

The Idle Sleep Mattress Review
The Idle Sleep Mattress Review

The cover is a natural cotton fabric that is good at keeping a cool sleeping temperature.
At both sides, the comfort layers consist of a quilted Poly Foam 1 inch thick that provides just enough softness to relieve pressure at contact points.

Immediately below the polyfoam, is 3 inches of Talalay latex foam that gives the mattress its bouncy quality and responsiveness. The latex foam also keeps sleepers in their position on top of the bed. That allows them to move without much resistance.

The support layer consists of 6-inch pocketed coils that give the mattress its responsive and bouncy feel. This layer reinforces the latex and polyfoam layers and gives the overall firmness of the bed. The support core is also primarily responsible for providing the shape and durability of the mattress. Moreover, the coil system gives adequate air circulation for effective heat dissipation.

Mattress Height

The total height is 14 inches for both Hybrid models. Both mattresses are substantially bulky and would require a robust frame to ensure their longevity. That makes both Idle Hybrid mattress models a bit cumbersome to move around in case of relocation or furniture rearrangement.

Firmness and Rating

Idle Hybrid Mattress

The Idle Hybrid has two different firmness ratings of 5.5 or medium-firm on one side, and 7.5 or firm on the other. That allows the bed to accommodate nearly all sleeper weight groups as well as most sleeping positions.

The overall feel of the Idle Hybrid is a body-hugging quality that immediately changes to firmness.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

On both sides, the average weight sleepers have no problems sleeping in all positions as the mattress can provide them sufficient pressure relief at the contact points. They feel their hips and shoulders are well supported, and their backs fully aligned.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

The heavier sleepers prefer the firm side as it gives them adequate support. They do not sink in so much, which prevents unwanted pressure on the hips. They are also able to move and shift to different sleeping positions with minimal resistance. Overall, this weight group finds the Idle Hybrid’s firm side as excellent in the back and side sleeping positions, with moderate on the stomach.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

The lightweight sleepers prefer the softer side as it allows them to sink in just enough to alleviate pressure at the contact points like hips and shoulders. They are comfortable sleeping on their backs and sides, although there is some discomfort at the hips when sleeping on their stomach.

Idle Latex Hybrid Mattress

The Idle Natural Latex Hybrid Mattress has a rating of medium-firm (6) on one side and a firm (8) on the other. The medium-firm provides a balance between pressure relief and adequate support for hips and shoulders. The firm side is bouncy and responsive, which is perfect for heavier weight sleepers.

On the medium-firm side, the Idle Latex Hybrid mattress gives the back and side sleepers enough cushioning effect to relieve pressure at the hips and shoulders. The stomach sleepers find that their hips sink a little more, so their spine loses alignment.

On the firm side, the Idle Latex Hybrid mattress effectively supports the stomach and back sleepers. It helps them maintain spine alignment and allows them to switch positions without much resistance. The side sleepers will find the firm side too responsive and will notice considerable pressure on the contact points like shoulders, hips, and neck.

Overall, the Idle Latex Hybrid Mattress is responsive and bouncy with a touch of softness. Idle Sleep calls this the Luxury Firm feel. The comfort layers initially allow your body to sink a little into the foam for a cozy snug. Then, that immediately stops and changes to the responsive firmness that is suitable for the back and lumbar area.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

The Idle Latex Hybrid Mattress is optimal in accommodating this weight group in all sleeping positions. That is true on both sides. The lower two-thirds of the group benefits from the balanced pressure relief (softness) and adequate support (firmness) of the medium-firm side. The upper third, which is slightly heavier, is well supported by the firm side.

Altogether, the results are excellent for back sleeping, moderate for both the side and stomach sleeping positions.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

The results for this weight group is the best overall. They find the Idle Latex Hybrid is excellent for both side and back positions, with a good rating for the stomach position. This group favored the firm side more, and the stomach sleepers preferred the medium-firm side because it offers more pressure relief on the hips.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Responsive and bouncy mattresses are usually too firm for this weight group. They experienced pronounced pressure at the hips, shoulders, and necks. They had fair results for back and side sleeping, with generally inferior outcomes for the stomach position. And that’s all on the medium-firm side only because they barely touched the firm side. We recommend that the lightweight sleepers should opt for a softer mattress to address their needs.

Idle Hybrid and Idle Latex Hybrid Mattress Size Options and Price

Both of the Idle Hybrid and Idle Latex Hybrid models come with high prices. However, Idle Sleep often offers discounts and promos that substantially reduce mattress prices. Here is a table showing the different options for both models:

SizeDimensionsPrice of 10" Version
Twin39" x 75"$899
Twin XL39" x 80"$999

Queen60" x 80"$14,99

California King72" x 84"$16,99

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Temperature

Both of the Idle Hybrid and Idle Latex Hybrid models offer a cool and comfortable sleep because of the foam and coil system combination. Adequate airflow in the support layers helps dissipate any heat accumulated at the comfort layers.

Motion Transfer

Since the Idle Hybrid and Idle Latex Hybrid mattresses utilize a coil system in the support core, there is considerable movement felt across the bed. If you are sensitive to motion and are easily disturbed by the slightest movement while sleeping, we suggest a softer mattress as a better option.

Edge Support

The two Idle Hybrid models performed well on edge support. The coil system and foam layers reinforce the sides to counter severe compression. That means couples can move anywhere in the bed without fear of falling off the sides.

Durability

Due to the materials used and construction of the mattress, we give both the Idle Hybrid mattress models a lifespan of 7 years. To maintain their overall structural integrity, we suggest flipping the mattresses with regular frequency.

Off-Gassing

Both Idle Hybrid Mattress models have an initial off-gassing odor. However, it is mild and dissipates after some time.

Noise The Idle Hybrid Mattress models are relatively quiet while bearing load. There will be some noise from the coils. This is usual for hybrid beds. Furthermore, both Hybrids use high-quality coils that are sturdier than those used on similar mattresses from other brands.

Recap

The two Hybrid Mattress models from Idle Sleep are both excellent in accommodating sleepers in all weight categories. The Latex variant is slightly geared towards heavier sleepers, while the polyfoam model favors the lightweight sleepers.

As mentioned earlier, Idle Mattresses tend to be a bit pricey. However, considering the features (two sides!) and benefits that these two models offer, we feel they are worth the investment.

Idle Foam Mattress Review

The Idle Sleep Mattress Review
The Idle Sleep Mattress Review

The Idle Foam Mattress is a flippable all-foam dual-firmness mattress.

Construction and Materials

The Idle Foam Mattress has a ThermoCool fabric cover that dissipates body heat, thus contributing to neutral sleeping temperature.

Each side of the Idle Foam Mattress has comfort layers consisting of 3-inch gel-infused memory foam and a 1-inch quilted polyfoam. The combination provides extreme body cushioning and considerable responsiveness.

The support core is a 6-inch high-density polyfoam that bolsters the outer foam layers and provides the mattress with its shape and sturdy structure.

The total height is 14 inches that makes the Idle Foam Mattress heavier than most all-foam beds. However, it is slightly lighter than the previous Hybrid models and is not as cumbersome to move around.

Firmness and Rating

The Idle Foam Mattress has a rating of medium (5) on one side and firm (7) on the other. The overall feel is a soft foam bed that conforms to your body but does not let you sink in too much. The high-density polyfoam base provides some responsive quality to the mattress that allows you to move freely without much resistance.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

This group finds both sides of the Idle Foam mattress optimal in most sleeping positions. They like the body contouring feel of the medium side that offers excellent pressure relief on the hips and shoulders. That is evident when sleeping on their sides and stomach. The firm side was excellent for the back sleepers in the group as it provided consistent body alignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

The heavier sleepers preferred the firm side. It provided them with proper body alignment as they slept in the back and side positions. The firm side also allowed them to move and shift with minimal resistance. When sleeping on their stomachs, this group noticed a little sinking of the hips.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

The lighter sleepers also preferred the medium side of the Idle Foam mattress for all sleeping positions. Like the average weight group, they find the body contouring excellent in alleviating pressure at the hips and shoulders.

Idle Foam Mattress Size Options and Price

The Idle Foam Mattress comes with a hefty price. However, Idle Sleep often offers discounts and promos that substantially reduce mattress prices.
Here is a table showing the price/sizes matrix for the Idle Foam :

SizeDimensionsPrice
Twin39” x 75” x 12”$799
Twin XL39” x 80” x 12”$899
Full54” x 75” x 12”$1,099
Queen60” x 80” x 12”$1,199
King76” x 80” x 12”$1,399
California King72” x 84” x 12”$1,399

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Temperature

The Idle Foam Mattress has a neutral sleeping temperature despite its all-foam structure. The ThermoCool cover and gel-infused memory foam contribute significantly to dissipating heat during sleep.

Motion Transfer

Due to its multi-foam construction, the Idle Foam Mattress is excellent in isolating motion. Couples will not be disturbed by their partner’s movements as they toss and turn during sleep.

Edge support

The high-density polyfoam base reinforces the comfort layers to counteract severe compression at the sides. A considerable amount of sinking is noticeable when you sleep on the edges, but it is not enough to make you feel like falling off the bed. That means couples can move freely to any spot on the sleeping surface.

Durability

We expect the Idle Foam Mattress to last for about 6.5 years. The memory foam and polyfoam components tend to deform considerably and develop depressions over time. However, because it can be flipped, this decreases deterioration and gives the Idle Foam Mattress a longer lifetime than standard memory foam beds.

Off-Gassing

The Idle Foam Mattress has an initial off-gassing odor present, but it dissipates after some time.

Noise

The Idle Foam Mattress does not make any noise while bearing weight. The multi-foam structure absorbs sound effectively, and there are no metal components that tend to squeak over time.

Recap

The Idle Foam Mattress is optimal for lightweight to average weight sleepers in all sleeping positions. The heavier sleepers favor the firm side but are a bit uncomfortable when sleeping on their stomach. The memory foam let their hips sink a little so that the Hybrid models would be better for them.

The Idle Foam Mattress sleeps a little warmer than the Hybrid models due to its all-foam construction but is significantly cooler than similar memory foam models of other brands.

All these features mitigate the rather hefty price tag and make the Idle Foam Mattress a viable option.

Idle Air Mattress Review

The Idle Air is a high-quality flippable airbed that incorporates several unique features compared to other brands of air beds available.

Construction and Materials

The Idle Air Mattress has a pillow-top cover that adds to the pressure-relieving qualities of the bed.
Each side of the Idle Air Mattress has a different comfort layer: memory foam on one side and latex foam on the other. That allows the user to choose between a luxurious soft feel for pressure relief or responsive bouncy support.

Next comes a zoned polyfoam transition layer. That means strategically locating denser foam at the hip areas for support and softer portions at the shoulder areas to relieve pressure. The segment also isolates the sleeper from the stiff and uncomfortable base.

The support core is one of the unique features of the Idle Air mattress. It consists of two air chambers that can be individually adjusted by remote control. That allows you to adjust the firmness of your side of the bed without disturbing your partner.

All these layers are then surrounded by a high-density polyfoam perimeter that provides extra support at the edges. The total height of the Idle Air Mattress is 14 inches. It makes the mattress bulky, but because of the collapsible air chambers, you can reduce its thickness, making it less challenging to move around.

Firmness and Rating

The Idle Air Mattress can be adjusted to a wide range of firmness settings. To simplify things, we considered the softest possible setting at 4.5 and 7.5 as the maximum firmness.

All these possibilities make the Idle Air Mattress adaptable to all sleeping positions while accommodating all sleeper weight categories.

We recommend the different settings to the appropriate sleeping positions as follows:

  • Soft (4.5) for side sleepers – provides pressure relief at the hips, shoulders, and neck
  • Mid (6) for combo or back sleepers – provides adequate back support and promotes excellent body alignment
  • Firm (7.5) for stomach sleepers – provides enough support to prevent hips from sinking thus affecting body alignment

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

This group is comfortable at the soft to mid firmness settings as they benefit from the balance between pressure relief and equal distribution of support to their bodies.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

This group prefers the firm setting because it provides adequate support on their backs and hips. They are also able to move freely with minimal resistance, even when sleeping on the memory foam side of the airbed.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

This group prefers the softest setting as it provides them excellent body cushioning that alleviates pressure at the contact points, especially when sleeping in the side position.

Idle Air Mattress Size Options and Price

The Idle Air Mattress is understandably pricey because of its unique features and adaptability.
Here is a table showing the various options for the airbed:

SizeDimensionsPrice
Twin39" x 75" x 14"$1,624
Twin XL39" x 80" x 14"$1,624
Full54" x 75" x 14"$2,584
Queen60" x 80" x 14"$2,584
King76" x 80" x 14"$2,774
California King72" x 84" x 14"$2,774

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Temperature

The Idle Air Mattress has a neutral cooling temperature, with the latex side slightly cooler than the memory foam side. And considering the air inside the chambers will adjust to the ambient temperature, you can have a comfortable sleeping experience.

Motion Transfer

The Idle Air effectively isolates motion at the soft and mid firmness settings. As you increase firmness, its ability to isolate motion decreases because of added buoyancy.

Edge Support

The Idle Air Mattress performs well on edge support. The high-density polyfoam border surrounding the mattress reinforces the edge against severe compression. You can sleep at the edges without fear of falling off the bed.

Durability

As the Idle Air Mattress is relatively new to the market, we do not have enough data to arrive at an accurate lifespan estimate. However, based on high-quality materials used and Idle Sleep’s exemplary reputation, we give the Idle Air Mattress an expected lifespan of 6.5 years.

Off-Gassing

The Idle Air Mattress has a faint off-gassing odor initially, but this dissipated over time. Considering a more significant portion of the substance comprising the inflated mattress is air, a prolonged off-gassing is not an issue.

Noise

The Idle Air Mattress emits very little noise when bearing weight. The memory foam, latex foam, and polyfoam layers are all able to effectively absorb sound. Also, there are no metal parts that tend to make noises over time.

Recap

The Idle Air Mattress has many unique features that set it apart from ordinary airbeds. Likewise, those features allow the Idle Air to compete at par with high-quality mattresses. The variable firmness (adjustable via remote control) feature of the Idle Air makes it virtually adaptable to all sleeper weight categories in all sleeping positions.

The only downside to all this is its hefty price. If you do not mind making an extra investment for a high-quality airbed, then the Idle Air Mattress is for you.
