Sleeping on the Leesa Hybrid Mattress (Sleeping Positions)

The Leesa Hybrid mattress is optimal for back and stomach sleepers, especially with the average- to heavier weight groups. Its bouncy and responsive quality provides adequate body alignment and back support.

Combo or combination sleepers also favor the Leesa Hybrid mattress because they do not stay in a particular position long enough to develop significant pressure at the contact points.

What does the Leesa Mattress Feel Like?

The Leesa Hybrid mattress is a bouncy supportive mattress that keeps excellent body alignment.

The Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review
The Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review

The comfort layers provide some body-conforming effect that does not make you feel being engulfed by the bed.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

The back and stomach sleepers of this group prefer the responsiveness of the mattress because it keeps their spine properly aligned. The side sleepers also felt comfortable to some degree but had to shift positions to prevent pressure build-up at their hips and shoulders.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

The back sleepers in this group had excellent results as the bouncy quality of the Leesa Hybrid prevented their hips from sinking in too much. The combo sleepers in the group favored the Leesa Hybrid because they could move across the bed with minimal resistance.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

This weight group found the Leesa Hybrid a bit too firm for sleeping at the back, side, and stomach positions because they felt considerable pressure at the hips and shoulders.

On the other hand, the combo sleepers had moderate results because they don’t stay in one position for too long to develop pressure at the contact points. With that said, a softer mattress option is more suitable for this weight group.

Cover

The Leesa Hybrid has a soft and breathable cover consisting of Lycra spandex blended with polyester.

Comfort Layers

The Leesa Hybrid has two comfort layers: at the top is an aerated low-density polyfoam followed by memory foam. These two layers combine to provide a substantial degree of body-hugging for pressure relief. The top polyfoam layer also dissipates heat, so you don’t get hot during sleep.

Below the comfort layer is a transitional layer of dense polyfoam, which acts as a buffer that isolates the sleeper from the rigid support layer.

Support Layer

The support layer consists of 6-inch pocketed coils sitting on a high-density polyfoam base. The coil system reinforces the comfort layers and minimizes compression along the sleep surface and sides of the bed. The coils also provide a continuous air circulation that dissipates heat and odor.

Mattress Height

The total height of the Leesa Hybrid is 11 inches. That makes the mattress manageable and easy to move if necessary.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Size Options and Price

The Leesa Hybrid mattress is a bit pricey. The Queen size mattress comes in at around $1700. However, Leesa occasionally runs discounts and promos that can significantly lower their prices.

Here is a table showing the different prices of the Leesa Hybrid mattress:

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The Leesa Hybrid has a regulated sleeping temperature because the coil support system provides enough airflow to dissipate heat. Furthermore, the cover and top polyfoam comfort layer contribute to a comfortable sleeping temperature.

Motion Transfer

The Leesa Hybrid was able to isolate some motion transfer due to the comfort layers. However, the responsiveness attributed to the coil support system prevented the total elimination of movements across the bed. So couples who are not too sensitive to motion will still be able to have an undisturbed rest.

Edge Support

The Leesa Hybrid mattress was able to minimize compression at the edges effectively. The coil support system reinforces the upper portion of the bed, particularly at the sides. That means couples can move to any part of the sleeping surface without worrying about falling off the bed.

Durability

The robust coil system and high-density base provide the mattress with a durable structure that will last up to 7 years.

Off-Gassing

The Leesa Hybrid initially has some off-gassing odor, but this smell dissipates after some time.

Noise

The Leesa Hybrid is reasonably quiet when bearing weight. However, there will be occasional noises coming from the coil system, which is typical for hybrid beds.

Warranty Info

6. Original owners may choose to upgrade a replacement mattress, but they must pay the cost difference between the original and upgrade units, as well as the costs of incidental parts. All additional parts will have a separate warranty with a new validity.

Comparisons and Alternatives

Leesa Hybrid Mattress VS Leesa Mattress (Original)

The Leesa Mattress is an all-foam bed that combines comfort with affordability.

Construction and Materials

Cover

The Leesa Mattress has a cover consisting of Lycra spandex and polyester blended fabric. These materials make the cover durable, soft, and breathable.

Comfort Layers

The Leesa Mattress has two comfort layers that provide a body-cushioning feel for pressure relief. The first layer is a 2-inch high-density polyfoam. The second layer is a low-density polyfoam also 2 inches thick. Together these layers complement each other to minimize discomfort developing at the contact points.

Support Layer

The Leesa Mattress has a solid slab of high-density polyfoam 6 inches thick. It provides the mattress with a robust base that reinforces the upper comfort layers to minimize compression and control sinking.

Mattress Height

The Leesa Mattress is 10 inches thick. That makes the mattress manageable and easy to move when necessary.

Firmness and Rating

The multi-foam structure of the Leesa Mattress has a medium (5) setting. It has a body-conforming quality that effectively relieves pressure at contact points.

Sleeping Positions and Weight Categories

The Leesa Mattress medium firmness setting makes it optimal for the back and stomach sleepers of the light- to average weight groups. The bed allows sleepers to sink in a little to provide pressure relief at the hips and shoulders. It also gives adequate support that keeps the body aligned to some degree.

The Leesa Mattress has a classic foam bed feeling. It is different from the feel of memory foam as it does not entirely engulf your body to get that being “in” the mattress sensation.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

The sleepers in this weight category favored the Leesa Mattress because they is a balance between body-contouring and evenly distributed support. The mattress was also effective in maintaining body-alignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

The heavier weight sleepers found the Leesa Mattress too soft and restrictive that they had difficulty in moving. They also sank deep into the bed so much that they developed pressure at the hips and lumbar area.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Similar to the average weight sleepers, this group favored the Leesa Mattress. Although they had only moderate results sleeping on their sides, they were still very comfortable while being on their back and stomach. The Leesa Mattress also provided enough body alignment to prevent lower backaches.

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Due to its all-foam construction, the Leesa Mattress sleeps a little warm. With that said, its Lycra spandex and polyester blended cover helps the Leesa Mattress regulate sleeping temperature better than similar beds from other brands.

Motion Transfer

The substantial amount of foam in the Leesa Mattress’ structure absorbs movements effectively. Couples will not be disturbed by each other’s movements while sleeping.

Edge Support

Unfortunately, the all-foam structure of the Leesa Mattress gives it a poor edge support performance. Despite the high-density polyfoam base, there is still considerable compression when a person sits at the edge. However, the overall result is not so severe as to make you feel like falling off the bed.

Durability

The expected lifespan of the Leesa Mattress is 6.5 years, which is at par with typical mixed-foam mattresses. We would recommend rotating the bed every six months or so to mitigate deterioration.

Off-Gassing

Similar to most foam mattresses, the Leesa Mattress has an initial off-gassing odor. However, the smell dissipates after some time.

Noise

The Leesa Mattress does not make any noise when bearing weight. The lack of coils eliminates sounds associated with metal components.

Recap

The Leesa Hybrid Mattress and the original Leesa Mattress both have their corresponding advantages and disadvantages. However, the Hybrid is more expensive than the original all-foam mattress. If the price is not a significant issue for you, then we recommend the Leesa Hybrid.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress VS Leesa Legend

The Leesa Legend is the brand’s latest offering. It is the tallest Leesa mattress at 12 inches and will suit people who are looking for beds with a high profile.

The Leesa Legend is a luxurious bed that incorporates many high-quality features that offer extraordinary comfort.

Construction and Materials

The Leesa Legend has a hypoallergenic cover consisting of a unique fabric blend. The fabric contains portions of polyester, cotton, wool, and rayon. The resulting fabric blend is a breathable cover that can effectively regulate temperature.

The Leesa Legend has three distinct comfort layers: a low-density poly foam that provides body-hugging and pressure relief; a memory foam layer; and a layer of zoned micro coils.

A transitional layer of dense polyfoam acts as a buffer that isolates the sleeper from the support layer.

The support layer consists of 6-inch pocketed coils. Thicker gauge coils located at the perimeter reinforce the comfort layers, particularly at the sides, to minimize compression.

Firmness and Ratings

The Leesa Legend has a medium-firm (6.5) rating similar to the Leesa Hybrid. It offers a generally bouncy and responsive feel. However, the comfort layers bring a soft body-cushioning effect that relieves pressure at contact points. The overall effect is a well-balanced feeling of luxurious firmness.

Sleep Positions and Weight Categories

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

The Leesa Legend provided comfort for the average weight sleepers in the back and side positions. The zoned micro-coil layer was highly effective in supporting the shoulders and hips, thus preventing further sinking.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

The heavier weight sleepers in the side position favored the Leesa Legend the most. It cradled their shoulders and hips effectively. The back and stomach sleepers noticed considerable sinking of the hips that caused spine misalignment.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

The lightweight sleepers generally found the Leesa Legend a bit firm, but they still appreciated the balanced cradling and support. They also liked the excellent spinal alignment provided by the zoned micro coils.

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Temperature

The Leesa Legend has a slightly cooler sleeping temperature than the Leesa Hybrid mattress because of its ventilated cover and top polyfoam comfort layer. The two coil systems (micro coils in the comfort layer and pocketed coils in the support layer) significantly contribute to the regulated temperature by providing a continuous air circulation that dissipates heat.

Motion Transfer

The Leesa Legend can absorb motion quite well. However, sleepers will still feel some movements.

Edge Support

The thicker gauge coils at the perimeter reinforce the comfort layers and mitigate compression at the sides. That makes the Leesa Legend a viable option for couples.

Durability

Similar to the Leesa Hybrid, the Leesa Legend has an expected lifetime of 7 years.

Off-Gassing

There is an faint off-gassing odor, but the smell dissipated after some time. The coil system maintains a continuous flow of air that removes unwanted smells.

Noise

The Leesa Legend is reasonably quiet while bearing weight. However, the coils will occasionally emit sounds.

Recap

The Leesa Legend is a luxurious mattress that balances pressure relief with adequate support. It has a generally responsive feel that perfectly suits the average- to heavier- weight sleepers across most of the sleeping positions. It also provides a very comfortable sleeping temperature thanks to the many cooling devices it employs.

The only drawback is the hefty price. If it is reasonable for you to pay a bit more to experience luxurious comfort, then the Leesa Legend is for you.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress VS Bear Hybrid Mattress

The Bear Hybrid Mattress is the hybrid version of the original Bear Mattress. It incorporates polyfoam comfort layers with a coil support system to provide a comfortable, yet firm mattress for the active customers who need a relaxing and revitalizing rest.

Construction and Materials

The Bear uses Celliant fabric for its cover. The material captures body heat and transforms it into infrared energy, then redirects it back to the sleeper. That process helps to improve blood circulation, intensify tissue oxygenation, and aids in muscle revitalization after strenuous activities.

The Celliant fabric is quilted into a gel-infused polyfoam that adds cushioning to shoulders and hips.

The comfort and transitional layers also use polyfoam that gives the Bear Hybrid a responsive quality that prevents sleepers from sinking into the bed.

The support core has an 8-inch thick coil system attached to a high-density polyfoam base. This core assembly reinforces the mattress edges to counter compression. It also gives the bed its structural integrity.

The Bear Hybrid mattress has a total height of 14 inches.

Firmness and Ratings

The Bear Hybrid has a firmness rating of 6 or medium-firm. The overall feel is a responsive bed that gives adequate support. It also provides ample pressure relief and cushioning, but not enough to make you sink into the bed.

Sleeping Positions and Weight Categories

The Bear Hybrid is moderate to excellent for the side, stomach, and back sleepers. It provides enough cushioning to alleviate pressure at contact points. However, as the sleeper weight increases, mattress performance drops significantly.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

The Bear Hybrid has the following results for this group: excellent for side sleeping, good for the back, and fair for the stomach. The sleepers had adequate support, but their hips sank as they slept on their stomach. That could develop into backaches and spine misalignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

For this group, the Bear Hybrid had generally fair results in all sleeping positions. The mattress was a bit soft for this group, which made them sink further into the foam. It also restricted movement and made shifting positions a bit difficult. A firmer bed like the Leesa Hybrid would better suit this group.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

The Bear Hybrid is generally optimal for this group: excellent for the stomach position, suitable for both the back and side positions. The mattress is soft enough to alleviate any pressure at the contact points while giving adequate support for back alignment.

Mattress Performance

Sleeping Temperature

The Bear Hybrid has a cool sleeping temperature. That is due to the unique Celliant cover that transmits the heat back to the sleeper as converted infrared energy. The coil support system also contributes to the temperature regulation by providing continuous air circulation to dissipate heat.

Motion Transfer

The Bear Hybrid was only able to isolate some motion but did not stop the transfer completely. The bouncy and responsive quality of hybrids makes them weak motion insulators.

Edge Support

The coil support system reinforces the mattress edges effectively against too much compression. So when you sleep at the side, you will not feel like falling off the bed. That makes the Bear Hybrid an excellent option for couples.

Durability

The Bear Hybrid has been in the market only for two years, so there is not enough data to get a conclusive result. However, based on material quality, construction, and customer feedback, we give it a 7-year lifespan. That is mainly due to the robust nature of the 8-inch coils in the support core.

Off-Gassing

The Bear Hybrid has some off-gassing odor after unpacking from the box. However, this smell dissipates after some time. Furthermore, the coil system circulates enough air to dissipate any present odor.

Noise

The Bear Hybrid emitted only faint noises coming from the coil system. However, these sounds are not enough to disturb you from getting a continuous comfortable sleep.

Recap

The Bear Hybrid is optimal for people with an active life and falls into the category of lightweight to average weight sleepers. The Leesa Hybrid mattress, on the other hand, favors the heavier weight group.

The Leesa Hybrid and the Bear Hybrid have almost the same prices so that the choice will come down to personal preference and needs.
